This shop on 17th St, iD Oakland, is for anyone with a discerning taste for men’s or women’s streetwear. Also, super helpful if you NEED to transform a boyfriend or husband’s closet with cooler jeans, jackets, hoodies, t-shirts, shirts, and kicks (sneakers). Style. Full stop.
We found iD by chance while on a photoshoot. Our photographer, Morgan Shidler, and I were perusing 17th Street and stumbled upon this hidden gem in plain sight. Morgan was taking pictures and I was peeking through the window to see what was inside. That’s when the proprietor, Osi, charmingly advised us, “you know… you can come inside!” We took him up on his invitation. And we were glad we did.
Here’s why: “id” is a psychology term brought to us by Freud that relates to the satisfaction, usually via instant gratification, of basic urges, needs, and Inner Desires of the unconscious mind. And clearly, Osi’s goal is to indulge your id with exclusive and hard-to-find streetwear brands and choice vintage, all of which he has expertly selected. And let me tell you, when we walked in that store, suddenly we both wanted and needed everything in the store.
NOTE: At LOCALMOTIV, we are absolutely merchant agnostic but I personally love and live in streetwear. And Osi could definitely help me freshen up my outer Identity (except that I am a bootstrapping co-founder of a startup).
