It had been a long but successful day. I was working on our #mytemescalshoppingtrip Instagram post series. This neighborhood walkabout was from 51st & Telegraph Ave to 40th & Webster and back. The mission: Visit as many indie merchants as possible and tell the story of this vibrant local shopping scene. And there’s certainly lots of Temescal shopping magic to relate.
My final stop was Oakland Yard Wine Shop. And since it was the end of my work day, why not test out what they had on offer? In other words, it was no coincidence that I saved this stop for last.
And what a perfect place to end a busy day! Clearly, Oakland Yard put an emphasis on the wine tasting experience. So, it’s a stress-free place to easily enjoy experimenting with wine varietals and regions to your heart’s content. You can taste wines by the glass or enjoy tasting events. It’s like going wine tasting in Napa or Sonoma except without the drive, attitudes, and expense. Yay, for that.
I met Max (one of the owners) that day I visited. He was so charming and without pretences. I loved how he described his inventory. His wines represent all his favorites amassed from years in the restaurant business. It’s an “old world love” for French, Spanish, and Italian. Of course, with some California too. They specialize in “oddball” varietals, wines that you can’t get everywhere, and small makers. So, when you bring your bottle to your next dinner or party, you’ll impress if you trust in Max to set you up!
Oh yeah, and they have some standard deals too: Mondays 4:00pm to 8:00pm, 10% off. Also get 10% off any 6 bottles of wine anytime.
