Every neighborhood needs a Rare Bird Gift Shop and Artists Studio. But, then again, it wouldn’t be a Rare Bird anymore. Perhaps that’s one of the reasons shopping local is so special. Indeed, each shop is unique and grounded in the owner’s individual vision, perspective, and passion.
Clearly, Erica, the artist-owner of Rare Bird on Piedmont Ave, has forged her own creative point-of-view. And, her spiritual muse is nature. Because the natural world is a powerful source of inspiration and healing. Not surprisingly, it’s reflected in all that she does.
And Rare Bird is soaring with artistic talent that they happily share with other enthusiastic birds in the community. But, if DIYer Erica can’t do it, she hosts local artists and teachers who can instruct creativity and wellness workshops.
Honestly, we’re not sure where Erica gets the time to plan and hold events. Afterall, she is also a maker and has a shop to run.
Rare Bird sells all sorts of gift-y items stamped with their view of nature. Everything is made by Erica and other local makers and artists. This includes apothecary, greeting cards, prints, candles, jewelry, clothing, clothing accessories, wellness books, spirit enhancers, tarot cards, and, candy. Truly, it’s all art-y, lovely stuff.
Naturally, we only have one Rare Bird in Oakland and it’s an original shop local experience.
