You know what we just learned? Transports has been around for 35+ years in the East Bay! We should have known that really. Now that we think about it, it’s ever so obvious that they’ve been doing this for decades. All the shop local signs are there that they’re a classic independent local retailer.
What were the clues that we missed you wonder?
Well for one, we follow them on Instagram and see all sorts of posts about their activities and events. We particularly are enthused by the Weekly Warrior Runs on Wednesdays. Perhaps we’re attracted to the cool down exercises — drinking beer together afterwards at The Golden Squirrel Pub. Indeed, it’s a so indie thing to do to create a community to bring like-minded enthusiasts together to enjoy their favorite sport or pastime.
And we’ve seen the expert staff at work too. They are always taking in new information from brand representatives to ensure they’re up-to-speed on the latest technology, specs, tips, and tricks. We watched them counsel a few customers one day with the deep expertise of practiced pros. And the owner, Bev, has been doing this since 1985 so, yeah, she’s practically the definition of practiced.
Then, there’s their assortment of sporting apparel, shoes, bathing suits, and must-have equipment. Old-school shops don’t carry everything as the Big Box retailers do. They carry a comprehensive, well-curated collection that best suits their clientele. Bigger is not better here.
So, one day, we asked Bev how she’s been able to survive all these decades with the onslaught of big box National Retailers and Ecommerce Behemoths. She was so humbly stumped. But, we think we can answer that question for her: It’s because she delivers to Rockridge a winning shop local experience. And that beats shopping Corporate America, every time.
