Without local bike shops, bookstores, gift shops, clothing stores, and local cafes and restaurants what makes one neighborhood different from any other? It’s a hot question that bubbles up in the Montclair community from time to time (or very often).
One such moment was a few years ago, when Montclair lost its bike shop, Wheels of Justice. It was before LOCALMOTIV’s time and we don’t remember the circumstances behind the closure. Did the landlord hike the rent? Did the owners retire? We just don’t know. But, it sure was depressing to see another local business close shop. We worried for the future of the Montclair Village. And, we’re pretty sure we were not the only ones to be concerned. 
Then along came Chad French to establish Rhythm Bikes on La Salle. And with it, he restored just a little more of that distinct local vibe. Dare we say it: He preserved a very important local rhythm. Even better, Chad grew up in Montclair and developed his passion for mountain bike riding right here in what we think must be the perfect setting to enjoy such a sport.
So, now he has his own shop to cater to the community that is his home. Certainly, he has just the right inventory to hook the neighborhood. Just check out the high end mountain bike brands available in his shop. Customers can even test ride them. Plus, they have an avid rider’s well-curated selection of the best accessories. No doubt, Chad and his staff can get you out riding the Oakland Hills trails in no time flat. It’s what they love to do every day. Of course, Rhythm also carries other types of bikes too and a nice selection for younger coming-of-age cyclists.
We hope he has many successful years to spread his enthusiasm and even inspire local kids to love mountain biking as much as he does. We love you Chad. You are a genuine local shop local hero!
